Creatures of Magic

After the opening of The Abyss, the Elves and Dwarves left their caves and forests to create massive kingdom fortresses. Those Elves who still remain in these magnificant civilizations are known as HIGH ELVES.

After Oberon's exodus a new king was chosen known as Frey. He and his great advisor, Avilion, ruled the kingdom with honor and superiority. All was to change when Frey had a daughter called Titania. Frey, quite unexpectedly, named Titania as his successor should he die in his battles with The Abyss.

Jealous that he, as the most fit ruler, was not named successor, Avilion started a vicious rumor. After overhearing Titania discussing with the Elven wizard counsel about her future plans for the Elven kingdom, Avilion began claims that Titania planned to overthrow the king before her time.

Because of past assassination attempts and the rampant treachery that poisoned the great civilization, Frey came to believe these claims as true. Avilion also played a role, casting powerful spells to influence Frey's mind.

Titania and her wizard companions quickly fled to the only place they knew they would not be followed, the aeon-old caverns of Adriel. There they discovered cryptical rituals etched into the cavern walls and were soon influenced by shadowy magic to become the TAINT ELVES.

Becoming very much a ruthless culture, the TAINT ELVES declared a war on the HIGH ELF kingdom which is still being waged today.

Frey, with the advice of Avilion, gathered together some of his greatest warriors and sought out to attack the TAINT ELVES at their threshold.

Avilion violated this opportunity by taking the throne to himself in Frey's absence. During the second year of battle Avilion became convinced that Frey had abandonded his brethren to hide in the woods and allow the city to be attacked continuously.

It was then that the gates of the HIGH ELF kingdom became closed to all outsider Elves. Once Frey realized that his position as king had been stolen from him, he took his soldiers and other outcast elves to set up a villiage in the forests.

These Elves formed a society known as the WOOD ELVES which attempt to get back to their ancient heritage.

HIGH ELVES are a culture which is very much similar to old world human civilization, but with even more stringent morality. The race is proud of their noble heritage and consider themselves the frontline against the Abyssal menace.

TAINT ELVES are not as evil as their reputation seems to report. They are cruel to their enemies and are obsessed with the art of dark magic, but retain much of their noble pride.

WOOD ELVES are race which place nature above all things, they consider themselves the only true Elves.
