The presence of humans in Adriel has brought the battle agains The Abyss to a head. The island of Adriel is visible from Ulster, but reports of its haunted nature prevented explorers from entering. War between Ulster and Lindorm has placed all land owned by Ulster into the claim of Lindorm's King Bledsoe. Once King Bledsoe spotted the beautiful island off of his shores, he insisted that this was his property as well and sent his bravest knights and scouts to settle it. The Human race is as diverse as the other occupants of Adriel. The first human settlers of Adriel are known as the PALADINS and are among the most determined soldiers on the island. Niles Manfield saw what he found to be immorality among the PALADINS and withdrew from the group along with several of his compatriots. These men drew up a treatise of their own morality. They declared that each of them would die no other death than one in glorious battle. The are wildly known among other men as the BLACK KNIGHTS. They are ferocious warriors donning solid black and reason that they are the testers of all that claims to be good. All those whom they defeat in battle are declared fiendish and deserving of their death. The BLACK KNIGHTS also have a myth among them that one day a great enemy will arrive who will defeat them. This army is an army of good whose souls are pure enough to face the BLACK KNIGHTS' sword of judgement. There has also come into being a group of men who have strayed agains the commands of King Bledsoe and fight to make sure that Adriel never falls under his control. They have left the ranks of the PALADINS and found shelter among the woodlands. These fighters for Adriel's freedom are called RANGERS. They have learned the magic of Adriel's forests and have formed a pact with many of the Wood Elves there. Humans have been the first of the armies to suggest actually forcing a way into the gates of The Abyss and fighting on those grounds. |
